Katie Cates Williams, 87, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012.

Mrs. Williams was a native of Halifax County, the daughter of the late Noyce Cates and Mattie Lynch Cates. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marie Mauw. Katie was retired from First Federal Savings & Loan in Roanoke Rapids with over 30 years of service.

She is survived by her son, Ken Williams, and his wife, Beverly Garris Williams, of Las Vegas, NV; her granddaughter, Melissa Williams; three great-grandchildren, Angel Williams, Samantha Biggerstaff and Ashlee Biggerstaff; her sister, Lola Boyd, of Greensboro; her sister-in-law Lucille “Dumpy” Whitby of Halifax; two brothers-in-law, Vern Mauw, of Sioux Center, IA and John Williams of Phoenix, AZ; and special caregiver, Rita Clary of Roanoke Rapids.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, at Rosemary United Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
